Responsibilities

  • Modernize, refactor, and migrate legacy Java enterprise applications and systems.
  • Upgrade Java versions and Spring/Spring Boot applications, including transitions from Java 8/11 to Java 17/21.
  • Refactor monolithic applications toward microservices and cloud-native architectures while reducing technical debt.
  • Apply AI-assisted SDLC workflows across requirements, design, development, testing, review, and documentation.
  • Use AI coding agents to analyze codebases, generate and refactor code, identify dependencies and dead code, create tests, and support documentation.
  • Create prompts, specifications, context files, agent instructions, and coding guidelines for consistent AI-assisted development.
  • Review and validate AI-generated code for correctness, performance, security, maintainability, scalability, and suitability before implementation or merge.
  • Develop and enhance unit, integration, regression, and automated test suites.
  • Develop applications for AWS and cloud-native environments and contribute to CI/CD build and deployment processes.
  • Collaborate with architects, developers, product managers, project leads, DevOps teams, and engineering stakeholders.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and communicate technical decisions, risks, dependencies, and modernization progress.
  • Share AI-SDLC practices, reusable approaches, prompt patterns, and lessons learned with the engineering team.

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of overall Java development experience.
  • At least one hands-on Java modernization or migration project.
  • At least 6 months of practical AI-SDLC or AI-assisted development experience in project delivery.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong hands-on Core Java experience, preferably with Java 11 or later, including collections, streams, concurrency, and JVM fundamentals.
  • Strong experience with Spring Framework, Spring Boot, REST APIs, microservices, Hibernate/JPA, SQL, relational databases, Maven or Gradle, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with JUnit 5, Mockito, integration testing, legacy modernization, refactoring, framework upgrades, or migration projects.
  • Regular practical use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or comparable agentic assistants in real project delivery.
  • Experience using AI agents to understand, analyze, refactor, and modernize existing codebases.
  • Strong prompt engineering and context engineering skills, including specifications, agent instructions, context files, and coding rules.
  • Ability to validate AI-generated code and identify risks including hallucinations, insecure code, licensing concerns, data privacy, and confidentiality issues.
  • Ability to demonstrate real-world AI-SDLC implementations and measurable improvements.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, independent working ability, engineering judgment, and comfort with Agile distributed teams.
  • AWS, EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, RDS, S3, Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, AWS SQS/SNS, OpenRewrite, MCP, SonarQube, Snyk, Checkmarx, React, Angular, or regulated-industry experience are advantageous.
  • Knowledge of GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, HIPAA, or GDPR is advantageous.
