Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate payment-domain services, including gateway integrations and authorization, capture, refund, payout, and reconciliation flows.
- Implement marketplace capabilities such as KYC onboarding, merchant configuration, settlement instructions, deductions, and merchant invoicing.
- Build idempotency, ledger/event, audit-trail, and other flow-of-funds primitives that support finance and compliance.
- Integrate with payment service providers and partner tooling, including applicable tri-party and sub-merchant models.
- Implement dispute, chargeback, and fraud-handling workflows and collaborate with Operations on runbooks and escalations.
- Partner with Product, Legal/Compliance, Finance, and Support to deliver safe, testable production behavior.
- Improve automated testing, safe rollouts, canaries, observability, and incident response.
- Mentor engineers, lead design reviews, and contribute to shared engineering standards and documentation.
Requirements
- Strong backend engineering experience with distributed systems, asynchronous processing, resilient APIs, and eventual consistency.
- Production experience with payment flows including authorization, capture, refunds, webhooks, and reconciliation.
- Experience with payment correctness patterns such as idempotency keys, double-entry thinking, and auditability.
- Knowledge of PCI compliance, PII protection, secrets management, least privilege, and secure coding practices.
- Comfort working in an Azure-first environment with APIs, queues/eventing, monitoring, CI/CD, and automated testing.
- Ability to communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders during incidents, financial discrepancies, and compliance requests.
- Experience with sub-merchant, marketplace, or Payfac-like operating models is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with dispute tooling, card-scheme rules, 3DS/risk rules, or fraud platforms is strongly preferred.
