Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate payment-domain services, gateway integrations, and payment intent, authorisation, capture, refund, payout, and reconciliation flows.
- Implement marketplace capabilities including KYC onboarding, merchant configuration, settlement instructions, deductions, and merchant invoicing.
- Build idempotency, ledger/event, audit-trail, and other flow-of-funds primitives that support finance and compliance.
- Integrate with payment service providers and partner tooling, including sub-merchant and tri-party payment models where applicable.
- Implement dispute, chargeback, and fraud-handling workflows and collaborate with Operations on runbooks and escalations.
- Partner with Product, Legal/Compliance, Finance, and Support to deliver safe, testable production behavior.
- Improve automated testing, safe rollouts, observability, reliability, and incident response; mentor engineers and lead design reviews.
Requirements
- Strong backend engineering experience with distributed systems, microservices, asynchronous processing, resilient APIs, and eventual consistency.
- Production experience with payment authorisation, capture, refunds, webhooks, and reconciliation.
- Knowledge of payment correctness patterns including idempotency keys, double-entry accounting concepts, and auditability.
- Security experience covering PCI compliance, PII protection, secrets management, least privilege, and secure coding.
- Comfort working in an Azure-first environment with APIs, queues/eventing, monitoring, CI/CD, and automated testing.
- Clear communication with non-technical stakeholders during incidents, financial breaks, and compliance requests.
- Preferred: experience with sub-merchant, marketplace, or Payfac-like models, including KYC, underwriting, settlements, and fee deductions.
- Preferred: familiarity with dispute tooling, card-scheme rules, 3DS/risk rules, or fraud platforms.
