Responsibilities

Lead the technical design, development, and delivery of backend services and platforms.
Drive architecture decisions with architects and engineering teams.
Provide technical leadership, mentorship, coaching, code reviews, and design reviews.
Define and promote engineering best practices, coding standards, and quality guidelines.
Deliver features and enhancements meeting business, user, performance, and reliability requirements.
Troubleshoot complex production issues, identify root causes, and implement sustainable solutions.
Improve performance, security, scalability, maintainability, and operational resilience across backend services.
Collaborate with product managers, architects, and engineers to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Identify technical risks, propose mitigations, and address architectural and operational challenges.

10+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
Expert-level Kotlin proficiency and desirable experience with Java.
Strong experience designing and building microservice architectures.
Strong proficiency with Quarkus; Spring Framework experience is a plus.
Experience with event-driven architectures and message brokers such as Kafka.
Strong understanding of distributed systems, scalability, resilience, and observability.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and Git.
Knowledge of performance optimization, secure coding, and application security.
Experience working in Agile environments and applying DevOps practices.
Strong knowledge of core AWS services and Kubernetes.
Proven experience leading technical initiatives and influencing architectural decisions across teams.
Banking, fintech, or highly regulated enterprise experience is a plus.
Fluent spoken and written English is required.

Ability to work from anywhere in the EU, Iceland, Switzerland, and the UK for up to 90 days per year.
