Responsibilities
- Shape Masabi’s platform architecture, including blueprints, standards, and best practices.
- Define and evolve data architecture and strategy for data generated across the platform.
- Design and deliver scalable, robust, and cost-efficient services.
- Contribute hands-on through coding, design, technical reviews, and targeted delivery.
- Address complex challenges involving scalability, performance, resilience, and cost.
- Advise and influence engineering teams on technical decisions and standards.
- Shape technical roadmaps and prioritisation for platform improvements.
- Support RFP estimation and technical scoping for complex initiatives.
- Produce technical documentation, architecture artefacts, and decision-support materials.
- Improve how architecture is understood and applied across engineering and the wider business.
- Contribute to technical forums and working groups, including API and architecture governance.
Requirements
- Strong experience designing and evolving distributed systems and microservices architectures.
- Experience operating at Principal or Staff level and shaping technical direction across multiple teams or domains.
- Ability to remain hands-on in code, design, and technical delivery.
- Strong experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and modern infrastructure practices.
- Experience making scalability, reliability, performance, and cost trade-offs.
- Proven data architecture experience involving data platforms, pipelines, warehousing, data lakes, or large data stores.
- Ability to turn loosely defined business or technical problems into clear, actionable approaches.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to produce structured documentation for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience contributing to engineering standards, architecture patterns, or platform direction.
- Strong REST API design experience in complex, multi-service environments, ideally including front-end API consumption.
- Interest in or exposure to AI-enabled systems and their production architecture implications.
- Nice-to-have experience decomposing monoliths into microservices, working with event-driven architectures and Kafka, improving cloud cost and efficiency, and using the listed development, data, and infrastructure tools.
