Responsibilities
- Lead projects from concept through rollout, including design, delivery, operations, and customer follow-up.
- Design, build, and operate distributed database components for ingestion, storage, and query.
- Make trade-offs involving performance, cost, and system complexity.
- Join customer calls, translate pain points into deliverables, and directly shape the product roadmap.
- Own outcomes against SLOs and unit-cost targets, reduce toil through automation, and improve operational excellence.
- Collaborate with App Observability, Alloy, Tempo, and other Databases squads.
- Support teammates through design discussions, code reviews, and pairing.
- Participate in the EMEA on-call rotation and contribute to incident response and post-incident learning.
- Contribute to the Pyroscope open-source community, including reviewing external contributions and helping steer the project.
- Develop capabilities including adaptive profiling, trace-to-profile correlation, query scalability, BYOC automation, agent-ready APIs and CLI tooling, and OpenTelemetry-native profiling.
Requirements
- Experience with Go or another systems language such as Rust, C, C++, Python, or Java.
- Experience building and operating production distributed systems and cloud services, including multi-tenant data systems.
- Comfort with customer conversations, ambiguity, product shaping, and breaking complex problems into deliverable projects.
- Strong software craftsmanship, including clean, robust, performant, maintainable code.
- Experience with operational reliability, pager duty, SRE-style work, or infrastructure as code.
- Ability to work effectively in a fully remote, asynchronous environment through writing, reviews, and shipped code.
- Bonus: experience with profiling and performance tools such as flamegraphs, pprof, or perf.
- Bonus: experience with OpenTelemetry, large-scale observability systems, Kubernetes, or multi-tenant SaaS infrastructure.
- Bonus: experience building structured APIs and deterministic outputs for AI or LLM consumers.
- Bonus: open-source contribution or maintainership and experience with Grafana, Prometheus, Pyroscope, or similar systems.
