Staff Software Engineer
AlphaSenseResponsibilities
- Set technical direction, define architecture, make build-versus-buy decisions, and own the technical roadmap with product leadership.
- Turn ambiguous problems into executable strategies by scoping work, identifying risks, and aligning teams.
- Design and deliver scalable pipelines, robust services, and high-performance production systems.
- Use AI-assisted development tools and evaluate AI/ML capabilities for production applications when appropriate.
- Lead cross-team technical initiatives, RFCs, architectural reviews, and consensus-building on major technical decisions.
- Own systems from requirements through release and production operations, including monitoring SLOs/SLIs, troubleshooting, and reliability improvements.
- Raise engineering standards through code reviews, mentorship, technical documentation, and leading by example.
Requirements
- Strong Python skills and production experience in at least two programming languages.
- Experience designing and owning production systems serving real users at scale, including consequential architectural decisions.
- Experience leading cross-team technical initiatives without formal authority.
- Strong system design skills encompassing failure modes, data flow, scalability, and operational cost.
- Deep DevOps and operational experience with Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and observability.
- Track record of mentoring engineers and raising engineering standards.
- Experience leading large-scale migrations or platform rewrites is preferred.
- Hands-on production experience with AI/ML, LLMs, BERT, NLP pipelines, or document understanding systems is preferred.
- Experience with content processing, enrichment, or search systems at scale is preferred.
- Familiarity with Java, GitOps, ArgoCD, or Infrastructure as Code is preferred.
- Active use of AI-assisted development tools is preferred.
