Senior Modeling & Simulation Engineer: National Security Missions

Base Salary

$160k - $200k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Develop mission-level modeling and simulation for national security space missions, including operational objectives, environments, and constraints.
  • Model and analyze constellation-level capability and performance, including network coverage, beam planning, and resilience in contested environments.
  • Adapt simulation tools for classified contexts and model multiple spacecraft, mission profiles, many-agent missions, and entire constellations.
  • Create and maintain simulation software infrastructure for 20kW-plus spacecraft and develop physics-based models of propulsion, attitude control, power, and communications subsystems.
  • Develop tools for rapid deployment of quality code and perform data analysis and anomaly investigation to identify and resolve on-orbit problems.
  • Support spacecraft subsystem integration and testing and work on classified programs in accordance with security requirements.
  • Set technical direction, review designs and code, make changes to vehicle control software when needed, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Active TS/SCI clearance, or TS/SCI held within the last 12 months, plus U.S. citizenship.
  • Current or previously held Special Access Program access and prior experience working on classified national security programs and in secure or SCIF environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in physics, aerospace, mechanical, electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, or another STEM field.
  • At least five years of professional modeling and simulation experience.
  • Development experience in Rust, C++, or a similar compiled language.
  • Experience with scientific Python, NumPy, SciPy, Julia, MATLAB, or similar tools.
  • Ability to own complex systems end-to-end and guide the work of other engineers.
  • Preferred: master's or PhD in a relevant STEM field.
  • Preferred: mission-level or campaign-level defense or national security modeling and simulation experience, Rust production experience, simulation-system creation experience, and Monte Carlo simulation or probability and statistics experience.
  • Preferred: knowledge of linear algebra, controls, orbital mechanics, space communications modeling, electronics, Linux, computer architecture, and continuous integration and continuous delivery systems.
