Responsibilities
- Own MongoDB Atlas cluster configuration and management across global AWS and Azure environments
- Lead schema and data model design using embedding, referencing, denormalization, and aggregation patterns
- Own index strategy, query performance analysis, and aggregation pipeline design
- Evaluate database technology choices, including MongoDB and Amazon RDS
- Design and execute cross-database migrations using Python tooling for migration pipelines and data transformation
- Manage Atlas infrastructure with Terraform, including sizing, auto-scaling, private endpoints, and access control
- Design and maintain OIDC authentication and workforce identity federation across Atlas projects
- Manage database users, credential rotation, and access control policies
- Detect and remediate drift between Terraform and Atlas configuration
- Monitor performance and optimize replica sets and sharded clusters
- Partner with backend engineers on schema, indexing, and query performance
- Establish runbooks for failover, scaling events, and incident response
Requirements
- 5+ years of production experience with MongoDB, including Atlas-managed clusters
- Strong ability to design schemas around application access patterns
- Deep understanding of indexing, query planning, aggregation pipelines, and MongoDB operations
- Experience with Amazon RDS or other relational databases, including schema design and query optimization
- Strong SQL skills
- Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, and data migration tooling
- Experience planning or executing database migrations across technology boundaries
- Proficiency with Terraform for managing cloud database infrastructure
- Hands-on AWS and Azure networking experience for private database connectivity
- Experience with the Atlas Terraform provider is preferred
- Familiarity with OIDC and workforce identity federation in Atlas is preferred
- Background in multi-region data architecture is preferred
- Experience in healthcare or regulated industries is preferred
- Strong written communication, documentation habits, autonomy, and comfort in a fast-moving environment
