
Principal Engineer, Foundational Services (Remote, United Kingdom)

- Lead technical strategy, roadmap planning, architecture reviews, and implementation for foundational infrastructure services.
- Design scalable, secure, supportable architectures and create related documentation, diagrams, and proof-of-concepts.
- Implement planned project work, provide operational support, and perform hands-on coding, debugging, and deployment of fixes.
- Build automation and infrastructure-as-code solutions and maintain infrastructure, automation, and test code in version control.
- Monitor and improve stability, capacity, performance, availability, and security using monitoring and alerting tools.
- Respond to, recover from, and prevent future failures and outages in a 24x7 production environment.
- Support PCI and security compliance requirements, including upgrades and defect management.
- Provide technical mentorship and coaching to junior team members and collaborate with networking, data center operations, security, and other teams.
- Participate in on-call and potentially after-hours support.
Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience with most supported foundational services, including load balancing, DNS, IPAM, certificate management, proxies, secrets management, CDN, and API management.
- Experience with Netscaler, Hashicorp Vault, DNS, PKI and certificate management, egress proxies, Fastly, and Apigee.
- Experience with GitLab, CI/CD tooling, monitoring and alerting, DevOps, and SRE practices.
- Understanding of PCI compliance, security best practices, security protocols, and compliance standards.
- Software development experience using languages such as Python, Java, or Go, plus software design patterns, code reviews, and version control systems such as Git.
- Experience with cloud and on-premises data center environments and highly available production systems.
- Experience with Agile methodologies and working as a key contributor on a fully remote team.
- Ability to work autonomously on strategic, complex, and high-risk initiatives and communicate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
