Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate backend services that determine customer entitlements and usage costs.
- Own licensing, purchase, quota, and consumption data flows end to end.
- Evolve domain models for seat-based and usage-based commercial structures.
- Design integrations using idempotency, ordering, reconciliation, and eventual consistency.
- Plan and execute live data migrations using feature flags, dual writes, backfills, and staged verification.
- Define invariants, metrics, alerts, and other observability mechanisms to detect silent divergence.
- Design versioned, backward-compatible internal APIs for other engineering teams.
- Improve production performance and reliability while decommissioning legacy subsystems.
- Write integration tests against real dependencies and maintain test infrastructure.
- Investigate production incidents, identify root causes, and implement lasting fixes.
Requirements
- Proven experience building and operating backend services on the JVM using Kotlin or Java.
- Working knowledge of relational databases, including transactions, isolation levels, locking, indexing, and live schema migrations; PostgreSQL is preferred.
- Deep understanding of distributed-systems patterns such as idempotency, retries, eventual consistency, and data reconciliation.
- Practical experience performing live system changes and data migrations without downtime using feature flags and staged rollouts.
- Experience designing versioned, backward-compatible APIs for engineering teams.
- Hands-on experience with event-driven architectures and message brokers such as Kafka.
- Ability to diagnose, debug, and resolve production incidents in complex environments.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Strong focus on accuracy, production metrics, traces, logs, testing, and clear cross-team communication.
