Responsibilities
- Design scalable agent-layer architecture and evaluate technologies to improve performance.
- Review existing architecture, lead architectural discussions, and make technical decisions.
- Provide technical guidance, conduct code reviews, mentor team members, and promote engineering best practices.
- Gather stakeholder requirements and collaborate with product management to prioritize features.
- Coordinate cross-team collaboration, identify and mitigate project risks, and adjust plans as priorities change.
- Own the technical direction and evolution of the Agent Framework to support Elastic’s Streams model.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a technical lead or principal engineer on an agent, daemon, or systems-level software project at scale.
- Experience managing distributed deployments, versioning, and backward compatibility.
- Deep knowledge of observability data collection, including metrics, logs, traces, OTLP, Prometheus Remote Write, and syslog.
- Strong background in Go.
- Experience designing management and control planes for distributed software, particularly protocol-driven approaches such as OpAMP.
- Track record of leading large, multi-team technical initiatives from ambiguous design through shipped software.
- Ability to move between projects and codebases and work across teams according to changing priorities.
- Ability to document technical decisions, build stakeholder consensus, and maintain technical direction.
- Strong written communication, including trusted design documents and ADRs.
- Bonus: experience with Elastic Agent, Fleet, Beats, or OpenTelemetry Collector internals.
- Bonus: OpenTelemetry Collector configuration, OTLP transport, or upstream contribution experience.
- Bonus: cross-platform testing and developer productivity across Linux, Windows, macOS, containers, and Kubernetes.
- Bonus: knowledge of pipeline execution models and processing languages such as Streamlang, Logstash, and Fluent.
- Bonus: experience with CloudFormation, Terraform, or other infrastructure-as-code tooling for agent deployment.
- Bonus: contributions to observability or agent ecosystem open-source projects.
