Responsibilities
- Design microservices and platform features from concept through production-ready specifications.
- Develop Golang proofs of concept and architect secure, fault-tolerant systems with automated failover, circuit breakers, and end-to-end encryption.
- Analyze existing architecture and plan legacy replacement, phased implementation, migration, deprecation, and zero-downtime strategies.
- Review and approve engineering architecture designs and lead architecture review sessions and technical decision-making.
- Partner with Product Managers, development leads, Security, SRE, and Infrastructure teams on platform-wide standards and initiatives.
- Lead threat modeling, create technical consensus, mentor engineers, and resolve complex technical challenges.
- Write ADRs, design documents, runbooks, API specifications, system diagrams, and acceptance criteria.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience building scalable distributed systems and 3+ years in System or Platform Architect roles.
- Experience architecting large microservice environments with 100+ services and monolithic applications.
- Strong hands-on Golang coding skills and the ability to write production-quality code.
- Experience with Protocol Buffers, gRPC, WebSockets, Kafka event streaming, and PostgreSQL partitioning, replication, and high availability.
- Knowledge of OAuth 2.0/OIDC, JWT, mutual TLS, data encryption, public key cryptography, and zero-trust architecture.
- Working knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, and distributed-systems patterns such as Saga, circuit breakers, and retries.
- Experience with systems handling millions of requests or events per day.
- Exceptional technical writing and communication skills, including architectural documentation, roadmaps, and decision facilitation.
- Experience planning phased implementations, leading complex cross-team projects, feature flags, gradual rollouts, and zero-downtime deployments.
- Ability to lead architectural decision-making, mentor engineers, analyze costs, and drive technical consensus.
- Experience using AI-assisted workflows for system analysis and identifying inconsistencies and corner cases.
- Nice-to-have experience with Ruby, Rust, Python, Java, C++, Kotlin Multiplatform, HSMs, AWS KMS, Vault, Istio, Linkerd, NoSQL databases, Redis clustering, Flink, Spark, AWS, GCP, Azure, PCI-DSS, HIPAA, SOC 2, open-source contributions, conference speaking, or technical writing.
