Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and test software for embedded Android products, including networking functionality for managing Shure devices.
- Build custom Android/AOSP images and integrate SoC board support packages and HAL layers.
- Develop and maintain low-level C/C++ native code, JNI bindings, custom Android HALs, system services, background processes, and applications in Java and Kotlin.
- Diagnose and resolve memory leaks, thread contention, power-consumption issues, boot-time performance problems, and driver interactions.
- Design maintainable systems, model real-time behavior with UML and use cases, review peer code and designs, and document development tasks.
- Collaborate cross-functionally on professional audio products and mentor junior and entry-level engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
- At least 4 years of embedded software development experience, including at least 2 years focused on Embedded Android/AOSP.
- Strong C++ expertise, including Modern C++11/14/17, plus proficiency in C, Java, and Kotlin.
- Hands-on experience with AOSP build systems, Android HAL architecture, system services, Linux kernel drivers and interfaces, Android NDK, JNI, and IPC mechanisms.
- Proficiency with Git, Linux command-line tools, Android Studio, ADB, GDB, Valgrind, Systrace/Perfetto, and protocol analyzers such as Wireshark.
- Experience with software design, SOLID and object-oriented principles, version control, software release, complex debugging, and analysis of interdependent variables.
- Strong communication, teamwork, attention to detail, quality consciousness, and ability to lead or mentor junior engineers.
- Preferred experience includes ARM board bring-up, Qualcomm/NXP/Rockchip platforms, UART/I2C/SPI/GPIO/USB/Bluetooth protocols, automated embedded-device testing, hardware/AOSP CI/CD pipelines, and Android security architectures.
