Responsibilities
- Find and precisely characterize bottlenecks in live production systems so owning teams can act on them.
- Partner with database teams working on Multigres and OrioleDB and with infrastructure teams to deliver concrete performance improvements.
- Build, communicate, and evolve performance methodologies and tooling that convert production data into actionable insight.
- Partner with the observability team to capture relevant signals and establish unified views of latency, throughput, and tail behavior across products.
- Enable teams to self-serve performance analysis and make performance a first-class engineering concern.
- Tune Linux kernel paging behavior, reduce memory overhead in OrioleDB and Multigres, eliminate latency spikes, and resolve scalability bottlenecks across the stack.
Requirements
- Deep experience in performance engineering and performance analysis of complex distributed systems.
- Ability to trace tail-latency problems across query optimizers, system calls, I/O schedulers, pooler hops, network paths, and availability zones.
- Strong depth in either Linux kernel internals, including virtual memory, scheduling, networking, and I/O, or database internals, including query planning, storage engines, buffer management, and WAL management.
- Strong working knowledge of networking and cloud infrastructure performance, including TCP behavior under load, network virtualization overhead, and AWS primitives such as EBS throughput and IOPS, instance network limits, placement groups, and cross-availability-zone latency.
- Proven ability to turn performance insights into product and architecture improvements and influence other teams to prioritize and ship fixes.
- Strong written communication skills for producing precise, reproducible, and compelling problem characterizations.
- Pragmatic, tooling-oriented mindset and comfort working across product, infrastructure, and database teams.
