Responsibilities
- Build, evaluate, and improve machine learning ranking models for private, team, and brand content search.
- Drive relevance and recall improvements focused on enterprise user outcomes.
- Develop intelligent result understanding, search recovery, and exact-title-match capabilities.
- Contribute to indexing using Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, vector search, and annotation technologies.
- Extend private and brand search quality and coverage to newer surfaces such as agent-driven search.
- Investigate and resolve production search quality and relevance regressions.
- Own scoped projects end to end, from problem framing through shipped, measurable impact.
- Communicate technical trade-offs clearly and share knowledge across the team.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience building and shipping machine learning systems in production.
- Ideally, experience with search, ranking, learning-to-rank, or relevance systems.
- Ability to define and improve relevance, recall, and ranking-quality metrics rather than focusing only on model accuracy.
- Ability to independently take scoped projects from idea to production with minimal guidance.
- Strong autonomy, judgment, and comfort working through ambiguity as search surfaces and user needs evolve.
- Clear communication of technical trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Passion, curiosity, willingness to learn, and experience or skills that can contribute to Canva’s goals are valued.
