Responsibilities

  • Develop machine learning models supporting ranking, retrieval, recommendation, and generative AI use cases.
  • Design and implement application features, services, API methods, and ML systems for Slack.
  • Build sustainable data collection and batch-processing pipelines and manage ML features.
  • Deploy ML models and other data-derived artifacts into reliable production systems at scale.
  • Lead or make substantial contributions to large, cross-functional projects with significant business impact.
  • Own features and systems over their lifecycle, including long-term health and surrounding-system improvements.
  • Assist support and operations teams with production issue triage and resolution.
  • Mentor engineers, conduct deep code reviews, and improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to build new product features.

Requirements

  • Experience with one or more of PHP, Python, Ruby, Go, C, Scala, or Java.
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, XGBoost, or scikit-learn.
  • Experience building batch data-processing pipelines with tools such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, EMR, MapReduce, Airflow, Dagster, or Luigi.
  • Experience fine-tuning LLMs or BERT models and putting machine learning models or data-derived artifacts into production at scale.
  • Ability to measure success for complex ML and AI products using an analytical, data-driven approach.
  • Experience leading technical architecture discussions and contributing to technical decisions.
  • Ability to write understandable, testable, maintainable code.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain complex technical concepts to varied specialist audiences.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, programming languages, distributed systems, and information retrieval.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience.
  • Preferred qualifications include expertise in conversational agentic systems, retrieval systems, search algorithms, vector databases, embeddings, RAG solutions, NLP, ML, and generative AI.

  • For Ontario-based roles, the base salary hiring range is CAD 130,300 to CAD 179,200 annually, excluding bonus, sales incentives, equity, and benefits.
