Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate production AI applications, retrieval systems, and knowledge-grounded agents.
- Take features from prototype through production and remain accountable for their operation after launch.
- Build AI evaluation layers with accuracy benchmarks, retrieval and prompt regression tests, confidence thresholds, and drift monitoring.
- Integrate AI into existing tools and workflows.
- Apply AI to legacy modernization, including analysis of older codebases, functional specification development, and rebuilding on modern cloud services.
- Build and train models on portfolio and behavioral data and back-test them against historical data.
- Write clean, tested Java and Python and maintain high code-review standards.
- Own production reliability through monitoring, alerting, on-call support, and root-cause remediation.
- Set safe practices for AI-assisted work, including reversibility, human sign-off for high-risk items, and escalation of errors.
- Partner with product owners, risk, and operations to define success criteria.
- Mentor engineers, review designs, and help set technical direction.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of experience building and shipping production software, including at least 2 years working on AI or LLM-based systems used by real people.
- Strong Python and Java skills, including Spring Boot.
- Hands-on experience with retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, vector search, prompt design, tool and function calling, and agent orchestration.
- Experience building on a major cloud platform, ideally Google Cloud.
- Experience evaluating AI output through grounding, accuracy testing, and regression detection.
- Experience with API design, data pipeline development, and SQL.
- Experience with containers, automated testing, and infrastructure as code.
- Proven ownership of production services and debugging live issues.
- Clear communication with technical and business stakeholders.
- Preferred experience in financial services, lending, or another regulated industry.
- Preferred experience with legacy modernization or reverse engineering, including mainframe technologies.
- Preferred experience building and back-testing machine learning models on transactional or behavioral data.
- Preferred experience with multi-agent design, Model Context Protocol, tool integration standards, and agent orchestration frameworks.
- Preferred experience with AI-assisted development across large codebases and responsible AI practices such as bias assessment, explainability, and auditability.
- Preferred experience mentoring engineers or setting technical direction for a small team.
- A master's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or Data Science is preferred.
- Cloud or machine learning professional certification is preferred.
