Responsibilities
- Conduct software safety analyses and create runtime safety requirements in collaboration with GM systems and software engineers and hardware and software suppliers.
- Ensure software safety requirements are complete, consistent, and aligned with system-level safety requirements.
- Support software teams in software design, implementation, and testing to verify that safety requirements are met.
- Ensure adherence to GM safety and software development processes.
- Escalate unresolved safety-related issues and confirm that resolution processes are followed.
- Lead or contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for safety and software development processes.
- Interface with corporate and industry experts to stay current with safety processes, methods, and tools.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of embedded systems development experience in safety-critical domains such as automotive, aerospace, medical, or nuclear.
- Strong understanding of embedded software implementation details and broader systems engineering considerations.
- Familiarity with ISO 26262, IEC 61508, IEC 62304, or DO-178C.
- Full software development lifecycle experience covering requirements, design, coding, and verification.
- Proficiency in C/C++ embedded programming.
- Experience performing or evaluating HAZOP, FMEA, FTA, or STPA is preferred.
- Knowledge of software architecture, design patterns, and deriving software requirements from system-level requirements is preferred.
- Multicore programming and real-time operating system experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with automotive systems, active safety, and automated driving systems is preferred.
- Knowledge of CAN, FlexRay, LIN, and Ethernet in-vehicle communication networks is preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, teamwork, independent-working, and attention-to-detail skills.
