Base Salary
$206k - $370k/yr
Responsibilities
- Drive end-to-end system design, implementation, and product integration for intelligent agents.
- Design and orchestrate complex agentic workflows, including multi-agent architectures, routing layers, and advanced retrieval-augmented generation pipelines.
- Integrate foundational models and modern AI APIs into scalable, user-facing enterprise products.
- Implement responsible-AI governance, guardrails, privacy protections, predictability, explainability, security layers, and evaluation mechanisms.
- Optimize application and LLM performance for latency, reliability, token usage, cost, context-window efficiency, and user experience.
- Prototype, benchmark, and automate evaluation of model outputs, retrieval quality, and agent behavior.
- Lead technical workstreams, own development lifecycles, mentor junior-to-mid-level engineers, and establish reusable application patterns.
Requirements
- P4 candidates need 8+ years of professional software engineering experience plus 1+ year building production-grade LLM or agentic systems, or 5+ years in machine learning engineering or AI application development with 2+ years shipping LLM-backed products.
- P5 candidates need 10+ years of professional software engineering experience plus 2+ years building production-grade LLM or agentic systems, or 7+ years in machine learning engineering or AI application development with 3+ years shipping LLM-backed products.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience integrating large models and modern AI APIs into user-facing enterprise products is required for P4, or 3+ years for P5.
- Experience designing and scaling AI orchestration architectures is required, with at least 1 year for P4 or 2 years for P5.
- At least 4 years of application-performance optimization and cloud-platform experience is required for P4, or 6 years for P5.
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or an equivalent technical field is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
- Candidates should demonstrate responsible-AI implementation, technical leadership, mentorship, product-focused AI thinking, reusable system design, experimentation, evaluation, and autonomy in ambiguous environments.
Benefits
- Annual base salary ranges from $246,000 to $370,000 for Pleasanton, California, and from $206,000 to $370,000 for additional U.S. locations.
- May be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or role-specific commission/bonus and annual refresh stock grants.
