Responsibilities

  • Contribute to Lustre architecture and lead implementation of features across core storage subsystems.
  • Write production-grade C code across the Lustre kernel module, user-space utilities, and supporting libraries.
  • Own feature development from design and implementation through testing, performance tuning, and upstream submission.
  • Improve scalability, metadata performance, I/O paths, and integration with interconnects and storage fabrics in multi-petabyte environments.
  • Modernize Lustre internals through kernel API updates, locking improvements, RDMA enhancements, and cloud/container capabilities.
  • Prototype emerging storage technologies including NVMe-oF and CXL for potential Lustre integration.
  • Strengthen regression, stress, and performance validation using IOR, mdtest, fio, and Lustre test tooling.
  • Perform code-level performance analysis with Lustre tracing tools, perf, lockstat, and kernel profilers.
  • Collaborate with Principal Engineers, hardware teams, and application owners on workload-driven improvements.
  • Mentor developers and contribute design documents, technical guides, and engineering reviews.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of progressive, hands-on Lustre software development experience.
  • A strong record of meaningful Lustre code contributions in production or open-source environments.
  • Demonstrated success designing, implementing, and upstreaming Lustre features included in major releases.
  • Deep knowledge of Lustre internals, including MDS/OSS, LDLM locking and recovery, journaling, DNE, DoM, FLD, layout, quota, and security.
  • Expert-level C programming and strong Linux kernel development experience.
  • Strong knowledge of distributed systems, parallel file systems, and high-performance I/O.
