Base Salary
$120k - $290k/yr
Responsibilities
- Build Neki, PlanetScale’s sharded PostgreSQL product.
- Design and build critical systems powering PlanetScale’s database platform and serving millions of queries per second.
- Solve complex distributed-systems challenges with a team of expert engineers.
- Independently solve engineering and business problems with minimal direction.
- Work directly with customers to understand their needs and translate them into robust technical solutions.
- Write high-quality, scalable, clean, and maintainable code.
- Debug complex issues across multiple systems and mentor junior engineers.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of software engineering experience focused on backend systems, database engines, query planners, or related areas.
- Strong proficiency in Go and experience with languages such as Python or C++.
- Experience developing—not only operating—PostgreSQL, MySQL, or other databases.
- Experience building and operating distributed systems at scale.
- Experience with database internals, query optimization, or distributed consensus algorithms would be helpful.
- Open-source contributions, particularly in database or infrastructure projects, would be helpful.
- Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure would be helpful.
- Knowledge of monitoring, observability, and debugging tools would be helpful.
- Previous experience at a high-growth technology company would be helpful.
