Responsibilities
- Adopt, modernize, and maintain a Terraform-backed EKS cluster for elastic scale, reliability, performance, and security.
- Troubleshoot and scale Postgres databases and queues across projected 10x to 100x growth.
- Improve telemetry and tracing using Datadog, AWS CloudWatch, and Honeycomb, including fixing observability gaps in the codebase.
- Maintain and improve Knock’s greater than 99.95% uptime track record.
- Support product engineers by improving developer experience through canary deployments, faster cycle time, and blue/green deployments.
- Participate in the engineering team’s scheduled on-call rotation.
- Document infrastructure and operational changes through runbooks and internal documentation.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience as a DevOps Engineer or in a similar role working with complex systems at scale.
- Production experience with Kubernetes clusters and infrastructure as code, including Terraform or comparable tools such as Pulumi or CloudFormation.
- Experience with complex AWS deployments, including multi-account environments, VPC structures, and EKS.
- Significant experience operating and scaling at least one of Aurora Postgres, Mongo, or ClickHouse.
- Experience or familiarity operating and scaling queues and streams such as SQS, Kinesis, or Kafka.
- Strong problem-solving skills focused on reliability, scalability, and performance.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for working in a fully distributed, remote-first team.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, or similar.
