Base Salary

$195k - $273k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Own the architecture and technical direction of Render’s data platform and shape its roadmap.
  • Build and operate reliable ingestion services, integrations, data pipelines, and ELT workflows.
  • Own workflow execution, worker infrastructure, deployments, upgrades, and operational reliability for the orchestration platform.
  • Improve BigQuery warehouse performance, cost efficiency, permissions tooling, governance, and architecture.
  • Build APIs, event-driven ingestion, reusable cloud services, and infrastructure-as-code modules.
  • Establish standards for version control, CI/CD, testing, documentation, logging, alerting, observability, and operations.
  • Partner with analytics engineers, analysts, scientists, engineering, IT, security, and business stakeholders.
  • Prepare model-ready datasets, expose features to downstream systems, and integrate AI and LLM workflows into production.
  • Mentor data engineers through code review, pairing, design feedback, and coaching.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated technical leadership as a tech lead or Staff-level engineer, including architecture ownership and delivery of complex data systems.
  • Deep expertise with cloud data warehouses such as BigQuery, Databricks, or Snowflake, including modeling, query performance, cost management, and access control.
  • Strong Python and SQL skills and hands-on experience building ingestion and ELT pipelines and maintainable data models.
  • Experience operating Prefect, Airflow, Dagster, or similar orchestration platforms, including deployments, upgrades, workers, and reliability.
  • Hands-on cloud infrastructure and infrastructure-as-code experience using Terraform or equivalent tools.
  • Experience building cloud applications or backend services, APIs, ingestion services, and event-driven workflows.
  • Strong production engineering practices involving testing, logging, alerting, observability, version control, and CI/CD.
  • Experience mentoring engineers through coaching, code review, pairing, and design feedback.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and technical tradeoff leadership skills.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Codex, Cursor, or Claude Code.
  • Preferred: experience with Render’s GCP, BigQuery, Segment, and dbt data stack.
  • Preferred: experience with developer-focused, product-led, sales-led, or usage-based businesses and knowledge of cloud infrastructure, PaaS, developer tooling, or technically complex products.
