Responsibilities
- Design, architect, and develop complex embedded software systems.
- Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code in multiple programming languages.
- Debug and troubleshoot critical software issues to ensure system performance and reliability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet system requirements and performance standards.
- Use Git for version control and software development collaboration.
- Document software architectures, designs, specifications, and development processes.
- Mentor and guide junior and intermediate engineers.
- Lead software development methodologies and workflows, including Agile and Kanban.
- Evaluate and integrate new technologies and tools to improve software development processes.
- Lead design reviews and make high-level decisions affecting program cost, schedule, and technical performance.
- Support flight-software troubleshooting for space missions when applicable.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree, or a master’s degree with 6 years of experience.
- Typically 8+ years of related experience.
- Deep expertise in multiple programming languages and advanced understanding of software development principles.
- Proven ability to design, architect, and implement complex software systems.
- Experience with Agile, Scrum, or Kanban methodologies.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to lead a team of engineers.
- Ability to make high-level design decisions with significant program impact.
- Preferred: experience developing flight software for space missions and supporting in-flight troubleshooting.
- Preferred: familiarity with ARINC 653 time partitioning in safety-critical software systems.
- Preferred: extensive RTOS experience, such as VxWorks or embedded Linux.
- Preferred: deep knowledge of hardware interfaces and communication protocols including 1553, UART, SPI, I2C, and CAN.
- Preferred: proficiency with advanced embedded-systems debugging tools and techniques.
- Preferred: experience leading large-scale projects or contributing significantly to complex software initiatives.
- Preferred: familiarity with the full software development life cycle and its processes.
- Preferred: understanding of memory, timing, and throughput constraints in embedded systems.
- Preferred: knowledge of DevOps basics and experience implementing or maintaining continuous integration pipelines.
- Must meet applicable U.S. Government international trade authorization requirements as a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or person eligible to obtain required authorizations.
