Responsibilities
- Design, prototype, build, and test production vehicle firmware for safety-critical systems.
- Develop and optimize applications in RTOS environments for reliability, latency, throughput, memory footprint, and power efficiency.
- Own and evolve communication architecture between MCUs, sensors, and main compute using standard and custom protocols.
- Lead bring-up and debugging for new boards and SoCs, including bootloaders, drivers, and low-level diagnostics.
- Partner with electrical engineers and software developers to move sensor and compute platforms from prototype to production.
- Define and build automated unit, integration, and system testing frameworks and harnesses.
- Mentor embedded engineers, conduct thorough code reviews, and help establish team-wide engineering standards, tools, and best practices.
Requirements
- Expert-level C and/or C++ experience for embedded systems.
- Strong command of low- and high-level communication protocols, including SPI, UART, I2C, CAN, and TCP/UDP.
- Experience developing in RTOS environments such as PX5, embedded Linux with pthreads, QNX, VxWorks, or RTEMS.
- Experience with MCU bootloaders, device drivers, and new board or SoC bring-up.
- Experience deploying firmware to multi-device systems or vehicles in a power-safe, fault-tolerant manner.
- Demonstrated optimization of speed and size for resource-constrained platforms.
- Experience with safety-critical systems and processes such as ISO 26262 is highly valued.
- Understanding of embedded software development practices including version control, code review, CI, and automated testing.
- Typically 7+ years developing embedded software for production systems, including substantial work on safety-critical or highly reliable platforms.
- Automotive or transit experience, automotive-grade safety MCU experience, kernel and low-level OS knowledge, deterministic timing and networking experience, CAN tooling and DBC workflows, hardware debugging, and Python scripting for automation are preferred.
Benefits
- Hybrid work arrangement with 2 days per week in the Pittsburg, PA office
- No relocation assistance available
