Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and maintain a Kafka-based messaging platform hosted on AWS EKS.
- Ensure platform high availability, performance, resilience, and scalability.
- Investigate and resolve incidents across Kafka brokers, producers, and consumers.
- Participate in L3 on-call support rotations and perform root cause analysis.
- Execute runbooks and SOPs, including Kafka topics, ACLs, and schema configuration.
- Improve operational procedures, documentation, observability, performance, and self-service capabilities.
- Support GitLab CI/CD pipelines and automate infrastructure using GitOps, ArgoCD, and Helm.
- Act as a primary technical contact for internal platform users through Slack and Teams.
- Provide technical guidance and translate user issues into actionable technical requirements.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka and its ecosystem, including Kafka Connect and Schema Registry.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, including partitioning, replication, scaling, and fault tolerance.
- Experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration, preferably Amazon EKS.
- Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, including VPC, EKS, S3, IAM, networking, and private links.
- Familiarity with GitLab CI/CD pipelines and Git version control.
- Understanding of Infrastructure as Code and GitOps practices using Terraform, Helm, and ArgoCD.
- Proven experience in IT operations, platform support, or production support environments.
- Experience with incident management, escalation, root cause analysis, runbooks, SOPs, and high-availability distributed production systems.
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, Mimir, and Alloy.
- Scripting skills in Bash, Python, or Go for operational automation.
- Experience managing Kafka clusters, topics, ACLs, schema registries, and data contracts.
- Understanding of asynchronous communication patterns and event-driven architecture.
- Basic understanding of the Java ecosystem and exposure to data integration platforms and large-scale messaging systems.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, collaboration, customer-support, and continuous-improvement skills.
