Senior Engineer
CoStar GroupResponsibilities
- Build and own frontend features using React and TypeScript, including component design, state management, performance optimization, and production monitoring.
- Develop and maintain Ruby on Rails backend systems using ActiveRecord, Sidekiq, service objects, Rails engines, and API design patterns.
- Optimize PostgreSQL queries, joins, views, indexes, query plans, migrations, constraints, triggers, and stored procedures.
- Design solutions before implementation and lead architectural decisions through design documents and ADRs.
- Create comprehensive unit, integration, and end-to-end tests using tools such as Jest, RSpec, and Cypress.
- Improve production observability through structured logging, error handling, APM, and monitoring tools.
- Work with AWS services, CI/CD pipelines, Terraform, and secrets-management practices.
- Raise team quality through code reviews, mentoring, documentation, and process improvement.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of software engineering experience with meaningful senior-level production systems experience.
- Strong, production-proven TypeScript and React experience, including hooks, Context API, state management, memoization, lazy loading, and code splitting.
- Solid Ruby on Rails backend experience or comparable experience with Python/Django or Elixir/Phoenix and the ability to ramp up on Rails quickly.
- Deep PostgreSQL experience with query optimization, indexing, migrations, and performance analysis.
- Demonstrated experience designing solutions upfront and leading architectural decisions through design documents or ADRs.
- Comprehensive testing experience across unit, integration, and end-to-end layers using Jest, RSpec, Cypress, or equivalents.
- Experience with production observability tooling such as NewRelic or CloudWatch.
- Strong written communication for pull requests, tickets, and technical documentation.
- Preferred experience with Ruby on Rails in production, Sidekiq, Redis, AWS services including RDS, SQS, S3, and ECS, Terraform, Flipper, progressive rollouts, API integrations, and real estate, proptech, or high-volume B2B SaaS.
- Familiarity with XML feeds, CRM integrations, and vendor APIs is advantageous.
