Responsibilities
- Build tasking and planning engines for orbit propagation, pass prediction, acquisition geometry, sensor configuration, and coverage-footprint computation.
- Develop resilient backend services for task management, asynchronous opportunity calculation, and state synchronization.
- Design and maintain APIs and user interfaces for visualizing passes, comparing collection plans, planning tasks, and managing access to space.
- Contribute to future capabilities including multi-sensor coordination, processing-pipeline integration, and new collection strategies.
- Own architectural direction, translate ambiguous operational needs into engineering work, and collaborate with engineers and product managers.
Requirements
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, including decoupled system design, maintainability, performance, resilience, concurrency, transactions, and CAP trade-offs.
- Production experience designing, building, and operating REST APIs, relational databases, and asynchronous workers.
- Understanding of delivery guarantees including at-most-once and at-least-once processing, idempotency, observability, and resilient production operations.
- Ability to learn technical domains such as orbital mechanics, RF physics, and geospatial data quickly.
- Ability to work through ambiguity and communicate technical trade-offs effectively across disciplines.
- Experience with event-driven architecture and tools such as NATS, Kafka, or SQS is preferred.
- Production experience with Next.js, React, TypeScript, CesiumJS, or deck.gl is preferred, especially for data-intensive or real-time visualization applications.
- Experience with orbital mechanics concepts and tools such as TLEs, SGP4, Skyfield, GMAT, or STK is preferred.
- Geospatial experience with GeoJSON, CZML, WGS84, map projections, coverage polygons, or ground footprints is preferred.
- Space, defense, intelligence, or operational software experience is preferred.
- Regular use of AI-assisted engineering tools such as Cursor, Copilot, Claude, or ChatGPT, with responsibility for verifying their output, is expected.
