Responsibilities
- Own the architecture of the core simulation platform for policy training, controls validation, and integration testing.
- Design and drive cloud-native pipelines that parallelize and scale compute-heavy workloads to generate millions of experience hours per day.
- Define core platform abstractions and APIs supporting extensible physics, sensor, and rendering capabilities.
- Set technical direction for performance, reliability, and scalability and resolve systemic bottlenecks.
- Define the platform roadmap and review major design proposals to improve iteration time for RL, controls, and perception teams.
- Partner with Controls, AI Research, and Perception leadership to translate domain needs into platform architecture.
- Establish architectural standards and mentor senior engineers on system design.
Requirements
- Excellent C++ and/or Python programming skills applied to large-scale system architecture.
- Deep experience architecting distributed, high-throughput, or real-time software systems.
- Experience architecting workloads on AWS, GCP, or Azure using distributed computing frameworks such as Ray or Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with software development best practices, automated testing, and code quality standards.
- Demonstrated ability to make and communicate architectural trade-offs involving performance, flexibility, latency, and throughput.
- Ability to ramp up in new technical domains and collaborate with physics, robotics, and ML subject-matter experts.
- At least one of: understanding of robotics concepts such as kinematics, dynamics, controls, or system identification; experience with Isaac Lab, MuJoCo, or an equivalent robotic simulator; or research or production experience with Reinforcement Learning.
- Bachelor's, master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 7 years of software engineering experience, including significant experience in software architecture or technical leadership on complex, large-scale systems.
