Responsibilities

  • Own complex product areas end-to-end from discovery and design through implementation, rollout, and iteration.
  • Architect, build, and evolve Node.js and TypeScript backends, APIs, authentication systems, and React frontends.
  • Lead architecture and system design for backend and API systems supporting real-time, high-volume workflows, including data contracts and authentication and authorization models.
  • Write technical design documents and set standards for code quality, testing, performance, observability, and scalable design.
  • Partner with Product, Design, and Engineering to translate ambiguous requirements into intuitive, performant experiences and make documented technical trade-offs.
  • Mentor and develop engineers through design reviews, pairing, and feedback.
  • Improve developer experience and reliability through API, data contract, testing strategy, and progressive delivery improvements.
  • Participate in on-call and uphold operational excellence for owned systems.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated Staff-level scope, including cross-team technical leadership, strategy, and delivery.
  • Experience owning products or features through discovery, deployment, and iteration.
  • Expertise with TypeScript, Node.js, API development, REST, WebSocket, gRPC, SQL, and an RDBMS such as PostgreSQL.
  • Hands-on experience implementing authentication and authorization in production distributed systems, including OAuth2, JWT, RBAC, login and session flows, and token storage and refresh.
  • Strong product mindset and communication skills, with the ability to simplify complexity, align stakeholders, and connect technical decisions to user and business impact.
  • Preferred: cloud infrastructure experience with GCP, AWS, or Azure.
  • Preferred: familiarity with CI/CD and progressive delivery practices.
  • Preferred: experience with telephony, SIP softswitches such as FreeSWITCH, or adjacent real-time and event-driven domains.
  • Preferred: familiarity with Node.js, TypeScript, React, PostgreSQL, Google Cloud Platform, and FreeSWITCH.
