Base Salary
$262k - $364k/yr
Responsibilities
- Architect acoustics, hardware co-design, and audio tuning across Google’s smart glasses and XR wearable portfolio.
- Partner with hardware teams to select microphones, speakers, amplifiers, and vendors and optimize microphone arrays and acoustic chambers.
- Lead tuning engineers in optimizing playback and capture signal-processing blocks on resource-constrained embedded architectures.
- Own end-to-end audio quality, establish standardized quality metrics and tuning practices, and define the long-term XR audio roadmap.
- Decompose complex audio challenges into multi-team projects and drive integration of in-house and external audio algorithms and technologies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Acoustics, Mechanical Engineering with an acoustics focus, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 8 years of industry experience in audio systems engineering, acoustics, physical acoustic design, audio system tuning, or digital signal processing for consumer electronics or wearable devices.
- Preferred master’s degree or PhD in Acoustics, Electrical Engineering, Audio Signal Processing, or Psychoacoustics.
- Preferred experience tuning playback and capture production pipelines, including EQ, MBDRC, speaker protection, loudness optimization, AEC, beamforming, and noise suppression.
- Preferred track record architecting, tuning, and shipping high-volume commercial wearable audio products.
- Preferred deep expertise in acoustic cavity design, porting, acoustic mesh impedance, transducer characterization, and lumped-element or FEA acoustic modeling.
