Responsibilities
- Lead development of custom WordPress themes and plugins built from scratch rather than existing templates or page builders.
- Transform completed designs and Figma files into responsive, interactive web experiences across devices and browser sizes.
- Develop frontend functionality with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SASS/SCSS/LESS, and Flexbox.
- Develop backend functionality with PHP and manage MySQL databases.
- Lead code reviews and support clean-code practices across the team.
- Scope complex custom WordPress and ecommerce builds.
- Advise clients on project solutions that best meet their business objectives.
- Collaborate with UX/UI designers and backend developers to bridge design and technical implementation.
- Optimize applications for speed and scalability.
- Implement ADA and SEO best practices.
- Perform cross-browser compatibility testing and resolve defects.
- Use Advanced Custom Fields and maintain a code-level understanding of WordPress core.
- Collaborate with the Director of Engineering as a technical advisor to clients.
- Support pre-sales activities such as SOWs and RFPs when applicable.
Requirements
- Expert-level HTML, CSS, and JavaScript skills.
- Expert PHP backend development skills.
- Experience managing MySQL databases.
- Experience building custom WordPress themes and plugins and understanding WordPress core at the code level.
- Hands-on experience with SASS/SCSS/LESS and Flexbox.
- Experience leading code reviews.
- Experience scoping complex custom WordPress or ecommerce builds.
- Experience with Git and Bitbucket.
- Ability to build responsive websites and apply ADA and SEO best practices.
- Bonus experience with Angular, React, vanilla JavaScript, ES6/ES2015, or Gutenberg blocks.
- Bonus experience with Laravel, CodeIgniter, Node.js, or other backend technologies.
- Bonus ability to use Gulp, Grunt, or Webpack task runners and Babel or similar JavaScript compilers.
- Bonus testing experience.
- 3+ years of agency experience.
- Strong communication, initiative, reliability, and ability to learn new technologies independently.
