Base Salary
$147k - $210k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and implement high-performance C++ components for AlloyDB’s database kernel, including storage engines, indexing, buffer management, and transaction logging.
- Build and harden distributed consensus and replication mechanisms for data consistency, high availability, and zero-data-loss failovers.
- Integrate upstream PostgreSQL features into a custom cloud-native storage engine while maintaining SQL compliance.
- Profile and optimize database paths to improve latency, concurrency, and query execution plans for enterprise-scale workloads.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve architectural challenges and performance bottlenecks across a large database fleet.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 2 years of software development experience in C or C++.
- At least 2 years of experience designing, building, or maintaining backend infrastructure, distributed systems, or large-scale storage architecture.
- Experience developing concurrent or multithreaded systems, or engineering database internals such as storage engines, transaction processing, or indexing.
- Experience building fault-tolerant distributed systems, data replication mechanisms, or consensus protocols such as Paxos or Raft.
- Preferred: master’s degree or PhD in computer science or a related technical field.
- Preferred: experience contributing to open-source database or storage-engine internals, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, RocksDB, or LevelDB.
- Preferred: experience with query processing, cost-based query optimization, compiler theory, vectorized execution engines, lock-free data structures, latches, or advanced thread synchronization.
- Preferred: experience analyzing and tuning system performance with benchmarks such as TPC-C and TPC-H and profiling tools such as perf and eBPF.
