Responsibilities
- Lead the architectural design, implementation, and deployment of high-availability backend services and APIs for payment flows.
- Define technical specifications, security protocols, and API agreements with Japanese financial institutions and loyalty providers.
- Drive end-to-end execution of multi-quarter projects across globally distributed engineering teams.
- Conduct design and code reviews, improve automated test coverage and engineering velocity, and mentor junior and mid-level engineers.
- Translate local market requirements into globally scalable payment and loyalty platform architectures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of software development experience in one or more programming languages, such as Java.
- At least 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products and 1 year of software design and architecture experience.
- Preferred: master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Preferred: 3 years of technical leadership experience and domain experience in consumer payments, card tokenization, issuer integration, eWallets, QR code payment protocols, or large-scale loyalty and rewards platforms.
- Experience designing distributed systems with idempotent APIs and building backend integrations with consumer surfaces.
- Ability to collaborate with external technical partners and drive consensus across globally distributed teams.
