Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services in Java and Kotlin using Spring Boot on AWS.
- Build and maintain APIs serving millions of customers across web and mobile platforms.
- Develop and optimize services for Wise’s card pay-in payment method.
- Design database schemas and optimize SQL queries against high-volume PostgreSQL databases.
- Build and maintain Apache Kafka event-driven architectures for asynchronous financial-event processing.
- Develop a payment orchestration system that routes payments across Payment Service Providers for cost and reliability.
- Write unit, integration, and end-to-end automated tests for financial systems.
- Conduct code reviews and uphold engineering, security, and quality standards.
- Participate in on-call rotations for Tier 2 critical services and respond to production incidents.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, analysts, and engineers on cross-functional projects.
- Resolve performance bottlenecks, scalability issues, and technical debt.
- Follow security best practices for sensitive financial data and financial-regulatory compliance.
Requirements
- Experience developing backend services with Java, Kotlin, and Spring Boot.
- Experience designing APIs and working with high-volume transactional systems.
- Experience with PostgreSQL and SQL query optimization.
- Experience building event-driven distributed systems with Apache Kafka.
- Ability to write automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
- Ability to address scalability, reliability, performance, security, and compliance concerns.
