Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain modular real-time control architectures for locomotion, manipulation, and teleoperation.
  • Implement high-performance control loops, middleware interfaces, software boundaries, fail-safes, watchdogs, and redundancy mechanisms.
  • Industrialize research algorithms into scalable, maintainable, testable, production-quality control software.
  • Integrate and validate real-time control software across embedded and Linux-based hardware targets.
  • Develop simulation, hardware-in-the-loop, regression, performance, profiling, and benchmarking workflows.
  • Define reliability, latency, safety, release, and reproducibility standards for the control stack.
  • Lead release management, version management, cross-team integration, system debugging, and hardware validation.
  • Collaborate with hardware and safety teams on fault detection, graceful degradation, and safe state transitions.
  • Mentor engineers and guide control software architecture, roadmap, and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Robotics, Control, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience developing robotics control software for real-time systems.
  • Expertise in modern C++ and Python for implementation, testing, and automation.
  • Strong knowledge of control theory, robot kinematics and dynamics, and real-time control systems.
  • Experience deploying and validating control software in simulation and on physical robotic platforms.
  • Understanding of software architecture, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing.
  • Strong debugging, profiling, and system performance optimization skills.
  • Track record of shipping production-quality robotics software rather than only research prototypes.
  • Experience managing software lifecycles, release management, and cross-team integration.
  • Preferred experience with ROS2, real-time Linux, RTOS environments, safety-critical systems, whole-body control, actuator coordination, impedance and force control, learning-based control, or related robotics tools and libraries.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, including the ability to influence architecture decisions and engineering culture.

Benefits

  • 23 days of accrued annual leave, 15 days of paid sick leave, and paid company holidays.
  • Fully funded private healthcare for UK employees, including virtual and in-person care and mental health and serious illness support.
  • Equity participation.
  • Pension scheme with an 8% total contribution, consisting of 5% employee and 3% employer contributions.
  • Free daily breakfast, catered lunch, and in-office snacks.
  • Opportunity to collaborate with engineers, researchers, and product experts in AI and robotics.
  • Freedom to influence the product and own key initiatives.
  • Based in London and working in-office; the posting references in-office meals but does not specify a formal work arrangement.
