Responsibilities
- Develop Proton’s backend services and account capabilities used across all Proton products.
- Contribute to the architecture of shared account components and define APIs for Proton’s mobile and client applications.
- Build scalable, high-performance solutions and apply profiling and performance optimization techniques.
- Lead team initiatives from discovery through production and take ownership of significant system areas.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, API, and engineering teams to deliver usable, customer-centric services.
- Implement secure software and apply cryptographic concepts to account systems.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex problems in critical systems when needed.
Requirements
- Proven experience with backend development and scalable, high-performance solutions.
- Proficiency with profiling techniques and performance optimization tools.
- Experience leading a team initiative from discovery through production.
- Strong SQL knowledge, preferably with MySQL, and understanding of data modeling best practices.
- Familiarity with Redis or other caching technologies.
- Knowledge of security best practices and experience implementing secure software solutions.
- In-depth understanding of HTTP and web APIs, including API development and consumption.
- Understanding of cryptographic concepts including key exchange and symmetric versus asymmetric encryption.
- Preferred experience with SRE or on-call operations, Docker or similar containerization technologies, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Python, Rust, and OpenAPI or other API documentation frameworks.
