Base Salary

$196k - $352k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate core components of a large-scale real-time distributed decisioning system with strict latency requirements.
  • Own selected subsystems end to end, including architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, on-call, and long-term evolution.
  • Develop a working understanding of a complex production ecosystem and deliver high-leverage technical contributions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the system and its tooling.
  • Collaborate with engineers and applied scientists on distributed systems and statistical or ML-driven decision-making.
  • Diagnose and resolve timing-, statistics-, and concurrency-related issues in a multi-region distributed system.
  • Mentor engineers and raise standards for engineering rigor, testing discipline, and operational excellence.
  • Drive alignment across engineering, product, business, and technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 10+ years designing, building, and operating large-scale, low-latency distributed systems, ideally including a system built substantially from the ground up.
  • Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of complex production systems, including design, implementation, operation, on-call, and iteration.
  • Strong command of Java and fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, concurrency, multithreading, and performance optimization.
  • Practical experience with distributed caching, high-throughput messaging or streaming systems, and SQL or NoSQL datastores.
  • Experience operating cloud infrastructure at scale using GCP or AWS.
  • Experience evolving live, business-critical systems while maintaining uptime and correctness.
  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Exposure to statistical, control-theory, or ML-driven techniques in production decision-making systems is preferred.
  • Real-time bidding or ad-tech experience is preferred; adjacent experience in trading, ranking or recommendation, matchmaking, risk, or fraud systems is also valued.
  • Experience using AI coding assistants such as Claude Code or Cursor in production work, with sound judgment about validating AI-assisted output.
  • Strong ownership, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and comfort with ambiguity are expected.
