Responsibilities
- Define reliability architecture standards, latency SLOs, and production reliability targets for AI workloads.
- Design and implement circuit breakers, retry, fallback, failover, and graceful degradation strategies across multiple AI providers.
- Lead concurrency modeling, throughput validation, resilience testing, and load validation for model-dependent services.
- Design scalable backend services supporting high-volume AI traffic and partner with Infrastructure Engineering on capacity planning.
- Establish production readiness reviews, AI reliability best practices, and operational standards.
- Lead incident analysis and drive architectural improvements for AI-related outages and systemic reliability risks.
- Contribute to critical runtime and reliability code paths and mentor engineers on distributed systems and resilience patterns.
Requirements
- 8+ years of backend software engineering experience building distributed systems at scale.
- Strong proficiency in Python or a similar backend language.
- Deep experience designing resilient microservices architectures and scalable, high-throughput backend systems.
- Strong understanding of retry semantics, circuit breakers, caching, graceful degradation, and resilience engineering.
- Experience defining and enforcing service-level objectives and reliability standards.
- Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP cloud environments.
- Experience operating AI-powered or model-dependent services in production, including familiarity with LLM provider constraints such as rate limits, latency variability, and concurrency caps.
- Proven ability to influence architectural decisions across multiple teams.
- Experience with multi-provider failover, concurrency modeling, rate limiting, performance profiling, observability, incident response, and production postmortems is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience; a master’s degree is preferred.
