
Senior Engineer - Web Platforms

$140k - $160k/yr
Responsibilities
- Develop the web platform while maintaining reliability, scalability, and performance.
- Promote high-quality releases focused on user experience and web performance.
- Collaborate with the team to shape priorities and the long-term roadmap.
- Provide feedback through pairing, design reviews, and code reviews.
- Support on-call, incident response, and troubleshooting for platform-level escalations.
- Partner with engineering teams through technical discussions, documentation, and issue troubleshooting.
- Support The New York Times’ mission and value of journalistic independence.
Requirements
- At least five years of full-stack web development experience with the modern JavaScript and TypeScript ecosystem.
- Experience with application build tools, monorepo tooling and practices, and frontend frameworks including React, Vite, and TanStack Start.
- Experience building centralized systems for internal engineering teams.
- Familiarity with automation for code quality, release management, and developer workflow improvements.
- Experience designing, implementing, testing, and documenting projects.
- Experience with GenAI tooling such as skills creation or agentic workflows.
- Experience with CI/CD tools, including GitHub Actions.
- Experience leading complex initiatives.
- Preferred experience with client-side GraphQL tooling and GraphQL data fetching, caching, error handling, and performance optimization.
- Preferred experience building and supporting shared tools, frameworks, or services on a platform team.
- Ability to evaluate and adopt evolving web standards and industry practices across frontend tooling, JavaScript, TypeScript, and CSS.
