Responsibilities
- Assess existing multi-product architecture and understand the rationale behind current designs before proposing changes.
- Evaluate code and design quality across product lines, including correctness, security posture, coupling, and capacity risk.
- Write and review RFCs and ADRs covering assumptions, failure modes, capacity, and security.
- Design extend-versus-rebuild strategies with incremental migration paths and rollback plans.
- Design scalable services with appropriate boundaries, resilience, documentation, and adoption paths for other teams.
- Anticipate scaling limits, third-party dependency constraints, abuse risks, and peak-load requirements before launch.
- Work within client planning, standups, and design reviews as a technical peer to Staff engineers and engineering managers.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience and the ability to design across several teams' surfaces.
- Strong system design and architecture judgment, including service boundaries, bounded contexts, scaling, migration, and resilience.
- Ability to review designs substantively, identify scalability and change-cost concerns, and communicate trade-offs constructively.
- Ability to explain every line of AI-generated code shipped and avoid merging code that cannot be explained.
- Testing practices that cover edge cases and failure scenarios, not only happy paths.
- Working knowledge of the OWASP Top 10 and secure-by-default practices including secrets management, input validation, and data handling.
- Strong written English for asynchronous collaboration through RFCs and reviews.
- Collaborative communication style focused on reasoning, trade-offs, and productive technical disagreement.
Benefits
- 100% remote work.
- Full-time freelance engagement on a B2B basis from September 2026 through December 31, 2026.
- Work with an experienced development team and receive ongoing hard- and soft-skill development.
- Long-term collaboration on challenging products.
- Candidates must be within an acceptable time-zone difference from UTC+4 with at least five hours of overlap.
