Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end architecture and delivery of complex automation systems, including modularity, error handling, state management, observability, testing, and maintainability.
- Define engineering standards for code structure, testing, deployment, version control, documentation, and architecture.
- Lead technical design reviews and identify risks, scalability constraints, integration dependencies, and operational considerations.
- Modernize and maintain the existing RPA portfolio, determining when automations should be refactored, migrated, replaced, or retained.
- Lead migrations from legacy RPA to Playwright, API-native automation, or other modern approaches while preserving business continuity.
- Design and productionize AI-integrated and multi-step agentic workflows using LLM reasoning, tool use, APIs, and deterministic process logic.
- Integrate Claude, ChatGPT Enterprise, and Amazon Q into automation pipelines while managing APIs, versions, prompts, and output quality.
- Partner with IT, engineering, and business teams to translate process challenges into scalable requirements and guide technical tradeoffs.
- Instrument systems with telemetry covering reliability, volume, latency, failures, and cost, and use operational insights to improve architecture.
- Provide technical leadership through work decomposition, code and design reviews, mentoring, and resolution of complex implementation decisions.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in automation engineering, software engineering, systems integration, or a related discipline, including production automation delivery and support.
- Strong proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript or TypeScript, including production-quality coding, code reviews, and independent architectural decisions.
- Hands-on experience with RPA platforms such as Automation Anywhere, Microsoft Power Automate, UiPath, or equivalent.
- Experience designing resilient automation systems with retry strategies, alerting, state management, observability, and recovery paths.
- Hands-on experience integrating REST APIs with authentication, rate limiting, pagination, error handling, and multi-service orchestration.
- Strong software engineering background covering system design, maintainable code, testing, version control, and production delivery.
- Track record of establishing or contributing to engineering standards for code review, automated testing, documentation, deployment, or architecture.
- Ability to make technical decisions across legacy and modern automation technologies while balancing reliability, scalability, maintainability, cost, and business value.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills across technical and business teams.
- Preferred experience with Playwright or comparable browser automation frameworks.
- Preferred experience building production agentic AI systems with LangChain, CrewAI, AutoGen, or equivalent frameworks.
- Preferred familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment practices, version control workflows, enterprise IT operations, ITSM, systems integration, monitoring, telemetry, and observability.
