Responsibilities

  • Own a large portion of an Ashby product and drive projects end-to-end from problem research through delivery.
  • Research customer and competitor needs, write product specifications, make product and design decisions, create wireframes and prototypes, and implement solutions.
  • Build frontend, backend, infrastructure, and reusable abstractions as needed to deliver high-quality product features.
  • Collaborate deliberately with product managers, designers, infrastructure engineers, and other stakeholders while keeping them informed.
  • Investigate customer issues and create tools, abstractions, lint rules, and other improvements that increase engineering leverage.
  • Mentor through technical leadership and help other engineers plan challenging work while remaining primarily hands-on.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience leading or owning substantial software projects through completion.
  • Ability to work across the technology stack and deliver end-to-end product features.
  • Experience handling significant product and technical ambiguity and creating flexible, reusable abstractions.
  • Strong product judgment, customer orientation, technical decision-making, collaboration, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to balance speed and quality, work independently with minimal process, and seek and apply feedback.
  • Comfort with customer issues, investigations, and the detailed implementation work required at a high-growth startup.
  • Previous experience with Ashby’s technology stack is not required; strong software fundamentals and a willingness to learn are valued.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity, including a 10-year exercise window for stock options.
  • Remote, flexible work with self-managed hours, a low-meeting culture, and unlimited PTO.
  • At least 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave, with potentially longer leave outside the US to meet regional requirements.
  • Generous equipment, software, and office furniture budget.
  • $100 per month education budget, with more expensive items such as conferences covered with manager approval.
  • $250 per month tool budget plus access to Claude, Cursor, and Codex with generous token budgets.
  • US employees receive fully covered health insurance premiums for themselves and dependents; employees in other countries receive fully covered supplemental health insurance.
