Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor an engineering team while contributing hands-on to backend solution design and development.
- Design, develop, and deliver secure, high-performing payments platforms, services, and APIs.
- Own end-to-end delivery from build and go-live through post-production support.
- Act as a client-facing technical leader by running discussions, resolving issues, and aligning delivery with stakeholders.
- Drive incident triage, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and live issue resolution with Operations teams and clients.
- Participate in the on-call roster after onboarding.
- Guide agile execution, take on Scrum Master responsibilities, and champion deployment automation and CI/CD practices.
Requirements
- Extensive commercial software engineering experience at Principal or Staff level with a record of leading teams, engaging clients, and owning outcomes.
- Strong backend engineering expertise in Java and Spring Boot, including microservices and API design.
- Understanding of the payments lifecycle, transaction processing systems, reconciliation, refunds, and chargebacks.
- Experience with payment gateway or orchestration platforms and PCI-DSS-compliant systems.
- Strong production troubleshooting, incident triage, and root cause analysis experience, with willingness to work in live, high-pressure environments and participate in on-call.
- Based in Australia with the ability to engage directly with local clients and stakeholders and work in aligned time zones.
- Payments-context experience is preferred.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, database interaction, collaboration with DBAs, large-scale system integration, and Scrum Master responsibilities is preferred.
