Responsibilities
- Build consumer-facing features across a React/Next.js frontend and WordPress backend connected over GraphQL.
- Develop GraphQL queries and schemas, persisted-query workflows, Node.js services, and frontend-to-CMS APIs.
- Build modular, performant, responsive, and accessible React components and pages.
- Own caching and rendering architecture, including ISR, CDN/edge caching, and object caching.
- Improve SEO, Core Web Vitals, page performance, reliability, and content freshness at scale.
- Write and maintain unit, component, and end-to-end automated tests.
- Improve developer experience and platform health through APIs, documentation, observability, and reduced operational friction.
- Provide technical guidance through code reviews, design sessions, collaboration, and technical presentations.
- Research system and process improvements, create documentation and proofs of concept, and influence team goals and roadmaps.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies and incident-response and operational practices.
Requirements
- 5+ years of web development experience.
- Strong knowledge of modern JavaScript or TypeScript and frameworks such as React and Next.js.
- Backend experience in a language such as Node.js, PHP, Python, Java, or Ruby, with the ability to design APIs and reason about server-side behavior.
- Experience with GraphQL, including schema design, queries, and clients such as Apollo or graphql-request, or a strong foundation in API design.
- Knowledge of TypeScript, modern CSS approaches, responsive layouts, accessibility, and performance best practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot frontend performance, bundle size, SSR/SSG/ISR, caching, accessibility, layout, and cross-browser issues.
- Experience with SEO, page-performance optimization, caching strategies, and digital accessibility, including WCAG; manual assistive-technology testing is a plus.
- Experience with Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright, AWS services, CI/CD, build systems, and transpilers.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts and trade-offs to engineering and business audiences.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Direct WordPress experience is not required; missing some listed qualifications may be acceptable for candidates with strong web-engineering ability and willingness to learn.
