Responsibilities
- Own the portable libraries problem space across iOS, Android, and web.
- Build production-grade, fast, safe, and reliable libraries in Rust and C++.
- Define library interfaces, safety models, API ergonomics, and cross-runtime architecture.
- Lead hands-on technical work and contribute to the Mobile Platform’s technical direction as an influential individual contributor.
- Design native interop and bindings for system languages and iOS, Android, and JavaScript runtimes.
- Communicate designs through technical documentation and collaborate with frontend and mobile engineers.
- Deliver libraries that ship to production, run reliably across devices, and establish reusable patterns for mobile engineering.
Requirements
- Production experience building mobile software on both iOS and Android.
- Production experience shipping Rust code; experience with Rust or C++ for portable libraries.
- Experience operating independently on ambiguous, high-impact technical problems at Staff level.
- Understanding of cross-platform runtimes, ABI boundaries, memory safety across language barriers, and foreign function interfaces.
- Deep native iOS and Android fundamentals beyond the JavaScript layer.
- Knowledge of portable library design, library API design, native interop, and React Native runtime consumption.
- Strong technical communication and experience writing design documents that guide engineering work.
- Experience with data structures, complexity, and core computer science fundamentals.
- Experience using AI agents in real work and a perspective on AI’s impact on mobile and systems engineering.
- Preferred: production experience with live migrations to a new mobile architecture.
- Preferred: open-source contributions to React Native, Expo, or the cross-platform mobile ecosystem.
- Preferred: mobile CI/CD experience, release trains, and over-the-air updates at scale.
