Responsibilities
- Lead technical architecture for a marketplace integration team from concept through implementation.
- Write and ship production backend code in a heavily hands-on role.
- Drive architectural discussions, design reviews, and pull-request reviews across integration workstreams.
- Translate ambiguous business or product goals into clear, scalable technical solutions.
- Partner with engineering teams across platforms, technology stacks, and geographies to integrate services.
- Define how eBay capabilities can be exposed as reusable services for other platforms and future integrations.
- Influence engineering practices related to system design, maintainability, and long-term scalability.
Requirements
- Strong hands-on backend engineering experience in Java.
- Proven ability to lead technical architecture and make sound system design decisions.
- Experience building or integrating distributed systems and service-based architectures.
- Strong communication and cross-team collaboration skills.
- Ability to operate in ambiguity and form a clear technical point of view with incomplete information.
- Strong individual-contributor mindset and interest in growing as a technical leader rather than a people manager.
- Experience with GraphQL, especially federated graph architectures such as Apollo, is preferred.
- Experience with Scala, Kotlin, or other JVM languages is preferred.
- TypeScript and/or Node.js experience is preferred.
- AWS or other cloud infrastructure experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with full-stack or web architecture is preferred.
- Experience in startup, scale-up, high-ambiguity, marketplace, commerce, or platform-as-a-service environments is preferred.
