Responsibilities
- Own the architecture and technical direction for key areas of a multi-tenant SaaS platform.
- Build and maintain backend services and REST, GraphQL, and gRPC APIs.
- Deliver backend features end-to-end, including data schemas and business logic.
- Integrate data, ML, and AI capabilities such as recommendations, categorization, automation, routing, insights, and LLM-powered workflows into customer products.
- Design reliable data contracts, APIs, UX flows, telemetry, feedback loops, and guardrails for ML and AI features.
- Improve monitoring, alerting, logging, runbooks, performance, scalability, and resilience of owned services.
- Ensure authentication, authorization, data privacy, security, compliance, and multi-tenancy requirements are met.
- Participate in and help evolve on-call and incident response processes.
- Mentor engineers, lead technical design reviews and architecture discussions, and raise standards for code quality, testing, API design, error handling, and observability.
- Partner with engineering management on roadmaps, staffing, and sequencing for major initiatives.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience.
- Experience shipping data, machine learning, or AI-powered SaaS products.
- Track record of owning and shipping complex user-facing features end-to-end with product management and UX.
- Experience guiding teams and owning critical production systems as a senior technical staff member.
- Strong proficiency in at least one backend stack such as Node.js/TypeScript, Java, Go, or Rust.
- Experience designing and building APIs, services, and integrations.
- Proficiency with Python and data analysis or modeling tools such as pandas and PyTorch.
- Understanding of data modeling and storage, including relational databases, caching, and basic data warehousing concepts.
- Familiarity with exposing ML models or LLMs as services, their failure modes, latency and throughput considerations, and guardrails.
- Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure, containers, and infrastructure including networking, scaling, and security.
- Strong practices around testing, CI/CD, code reviews, and incremental delivery.
- Product-minded systems thinker with strong communication and mentoring abilities.
Benefits
- Base salary range of $249,000 to $269,000 CAD.
