Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, operate, and iterate on full-stack HCM features spanning React front ends and cloud-native backend services.
- Own significant roadmap initiatives from technical design through production launch, instrumentation, monitoring, rollout, experimentation, and follow-through.
- Build AI-powered and agentic capabilities using LLM-backed workflows, retrieval, structured extraction, and task automation.
- Establish prompt and context design, evaluation and regression testing, guardrails, fallback behavior, cost and latency management, and observability for non-deterministic systems.
- Use AI development tooling for scaffolding, refactoring, test generation, code review, debugging, and documentation, while improving team practices.
- Contribute to architectural direction, drive technical decisions, reduce technical debt and operational toil, and participate in on-call.
- Mentor engineers through onboarding, pairing, design review, code review, and technical guidance.
- Partner with Product Management, Design, Data, QA, HCM teams, and platform teams to shape scope and integration contracts.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production software.
- Production experience with a modern JavaScript or TypeScript front-end framework, ideally React, and a backend language such as Java, Kotlin, Go, Python, or Node.js.
- Knowledge of distributed systems, API design, relational and non-relational data modeling, and service-oriented architecture.
- Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS or GCP, containerization, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Practical experience building AI capabilities such as LLM-backed features, retrieval-augmented systems, agentic workflows, or ML-driven product capabilities with production or near-production results.
- Fluent daily use of AI development tooling with concrete examples of its impact on engineering output.
- Experience owning features end to end with minimal direction and shipping them to customers.
- Strong written and verbal communication, including technical design writing and explaining tradeoffs to non-engineers.
- Experience working in an Agile environment with iterative delivery.
- Preferred experience includes HR technology, payroll, workforce management, fintech, auditable or financially material domains, AI evaluation systems, rules engines, workflow engines, third-party APIs, accessibility, design systems, mentoring, technical leadership, privacy frameworks, and legacy modernization.

- Toronto-based base pay range is CAD 132,000 to CAD 178,500.
